WARD WINS GO GREEN NMX MODIFIED SERIES EVENT AT FONDA
FONDA, NY – It has been many years since Pat Ward has been a regular at the Fonda Speedway. For 2008 Ward is making Fonda his home track on Saturday nights and Saturday evening he totally dominated the 40-lap $4000 to win Modified event to win the second leg of the Go Green NMX Fonda Thunder Series at Fonda in the Gypsum Express #42P Enders powered Bicknell car.

JOHNSON GETS SECOND WIN OF THE SEASON AT FONDA
FONDA, NY – If you listen to any of the NASCAR broadcasts on the television or the radio you will often hear a driver say that the car was good off the truck when asked how his racecar is by one of the broadcasting crew.

The same could be said last night for Ronnie Johnson who celebrated his second win of the season at the Track of Champions after getting the lead from Tony Pepicelli on a lap 11 restart and surviving a late race charge by Bobby Varin to secure the victory.

“We were good in warm-ups right after we unloaded the car and I said that we may have something for them tonight,” Johnson said. “I wanted to make some changes to the car but my guys all told me not to touch it so we only made a couple of small changes and that was it.”

The win for Johnson came in the B-Dry Systems of New York #2 Teo car with an Enders power plant and was his 10th career Modified feature win at Fonda. It was also a good night for Johnson to win as one of the other sponsors on his car Palmer’s Service Center was sponsoring the racing activities for the evening.

“It is great to bring one home early in the season for car owners Jake & Nancy Spraker,” Varin said in victory lane. “It was a great run for us and it is amazing what good equipment can do for you. We were fortunate to start on the front row today because we were able to pick and choose a line on the speedway.”

DELORENZO PICKS UP $4800 AT FONDA’S ICE JAM
FONDA, NY – Matt DeLorenzo took up right where he left off last year as he stood in victory lane at the Fonda Speedway on Saturday afternoon after the annual “Ice Jam” event. DeLorenzo won the final race of the 2007 season and yesterday battled Brett Hearn and Ryan Odasz to take home the win in the 40-lap event.

In victory lane DeLorenzo made a very special dedication to his grandfather Anthony who passed away during the off season.

“I really need to dedicate this win to my grandfather,” DeLorenzo said. “He always used to ask me why does Brett Hearn beat you all the time. My grandfather was here with us at the races every week and this win is for him as he was definitely looking down on me today.”

The win was worth $4000 with another $800 added on top of it because a Fonda Speedway regular was able to beat an outsider. The win was the 13th of DeLorenzo’s career in the Modified division at Fonda.

FONDA SPEEDWAY REDIES FOR 2008 SEASON OPENER
FONDA, NY – After a very successful car show at the Rotterdam Square Mall a few weeks ago when approximately 60 cars filled the mall to capacity, Fonda Speedway now looks forward to the 2008 season opener on Saturday, April 12 at 4:00 p.m. On the racing card for opening day of the 57th year of competition at the Track of Champions will be the annual 40-lap Ice Jam event for the Modifieds along with a $750 to win Sportsman Open and warm-ups for all divisions.

“We moved the starting time for our opening day event to 4:00 p.m. this year,” promoter Ric Lucia said. “I didn’t want to have a day race because I don’t like the way the track comes up so that is the reason for the change in the starting time.”

The 2008 point season begins for all divisions on Saturday, April 19.

Last year “The Doctor” Danny Johnson made a house call to Fonda and won the Ice Jam event followed by Ronnie Johnson, 2007 Fonda Speedway Modified Track Champion Matt DeLorenzo, Stewart Friesen, and Dave Camara.

This will be Ric Lucia’s 12th year as promoter at Fonda and he talked about that recently at the annual Fonda Speedway car show.

“This is an exciting time for me,” Lucia said. “I purposely held up this years schedule until I got the series together (the Go Green NMX Fonda Thunder Series for Modifieds) and although there are some sort of risks involved we are going to see if we can make it work.”

“The beauty of it all is that I love the sport of racing, I am passionate about the sport, and I am fortunate that my wife and my family have allowed me to do this for so long. A LOOK BACK AT THE 2007 RACING SEASON AT THE FONDA SPEEDWAY
FONDA, NY – The 2007 racing season was the 56th championship season of competition at the “Track of Champions” Fonda Speedway. Considering all of the rainouts and the flooding that occurred in 2006, 2007 was a different story as it was one of the best seasons that the Montgomery County Fairgrounds 1/2 mile oval has ever seen weather-wise.

“What a difference a year makes as last year (2006) we lost nine events to rain while this year we only lost one,” promoter Ric Lucia said back in November at the annual awards banquet. “Wherever Fonda Speedway drivers travel to race statistically they always run well. I feel that we have one of the best groups of drivers in the Northeast and in New York State. I feel that the sport of racing in Fonda isn’t going anywhere and that we should all quit worrying about where we’ve been, look at where we are and work together to keep Fonda Speedway successful.”

FONDA SPEEDWAY TRACK CHAMPIONS HONORED AT ANNUAL AWARDS BANQUET
FONDA, NY – On Sunday evening November 4 in the ballroom at Mallozzi’s Restaurant in Schenectady, the 2007 Fonda Speedway Track Champions in all divisions were honored by speedway management for their accomplishments this season. Many other awards were also given out in other categories as drivers, car owners, sponsors, and fans celebrated the conclusion of the 2007 racing season at the Track of Champions.

After dinner was served, Fonda Speedway promoter Ric Lucia started off the awards ceremony saying: “What a difference a year makes as last year we lost nine events to rain while this year we only lost one. Wherever Fonda Speedway drivers travel to race statistically they always run well. I feel that we have one of the best groups of drivers in the Northeast and in New York State. I feel that the sport of racing in Fonda isn’t going anywhere and that we should all quit worrying about where we’ve been, look at where we are and work together to keep Fonda Speedway successful.”

HEARN SURVIVES TO TAKE FONDA WIN
FONDA, NY – On Sunday afternoon, daytime track conditions caused a game of strategy to be played out by the drivers in the Modified feature event at the Fonda Speedway. In the end, Brett Hearn survived where many others didn’t as he went on to his 22nd career feature win at the Track of Champions. Hearn led wire to wire on the way to the win after starting on the pole position by the luck of the draw in the Steve Hastings/Joe Knoth owned Smith Brothers sponsored #74. It was the first win at Fonda for Hearn since 4/12/03.

“I spent most of the race trying to conserve my tires,” Hearn said in victory lane after the win. “The car handled awesome and it was great to get a win for this team because this is the car that I normally drive at Orange County and they don’t get to travel too often.”

The Dart Dirt Race of Champions (RoC) Modified Tour feature win was worth $7,500 to Hearn but was plagued by 13 yellow flags mainly for flat tires.

DELORENZO TAKES NINTH WIN OF THE SEASON AT FONDA
FONDA, NY – Last Sunday instead of racing at the Fonda Speedway, 2007 Overall Modified Track Champion Matt DeLorenzo decided to take a vacation with his family to the Nextel Cup race in New Hampshire. On Saturday evening DeLorenzo was back from his vacation and he was just as dominant as he was all season long as took his ninth feature win of the season which was worth $3,000.

“I have to thank Mother Nature for that one,” DeLorenzo said in victory lane. “I was hoping for a little rain today as it made the track just like it was on a regular Saturday night all summer long. The track took rubber early in the heat races but the rain definitely helped.”

Other winners on Saturday at Fonda were Alex Bell (Budget Sportsman), Kenny Gates (Pro Stock), George Catanzano (IMCA), Rocky Warner (Street Stock), and Jeff Crouse (4-cylinder). Rain started to fall during the Pro Stock feature resulting in a long rain delay.

ODASZ TAKES $2500 WIN AT FONDA
FONDA, NY – Fonda Speedway was back in action on Sunday afternoon after the break for the annual Fonda Fair and Ryan Odasz was in mid-season form even though it is almost the end of the 2007 racing campaign as he took his third win of the season and the seventh of his career at the Track of Champions in the 30-lap, $2500 to win Modified feature event.

“This is definitely the biggest win and the biggest payday of my racing career,” Odasz said in victory lane. “This was only supposed to be a part time deal with Wayne Podbielski (owner of the Chet’s Floor Covering car #14R) this year but he did the setup on the car today and even though I wanted to second guess him I am glad that I didn’t. This is a sweet deal.”

Other winners on “Back to School Student’s Night” were Mark Kislowski (sportsman), Frank Hoard III (Budget Sportsman), Kenny Martin Jr. (Pro Stock), Jeremy Cramer (IMCA), and Dave Horning Sr. (Street Stock). The Night of Features consists of double features in the Modified, Sportsman, and Pro Stock divisions and it adds plenty of drama to the racing program whether you are the point leader going into the night or not. It also made a very exciting racing program for the fans.

On Saturday evening the 2007 Night of Features racing program was run and when it was all said and done the 2007 Fonda Speedway Track Champions were Matt DeLorenzo (overall Modified), David Towns (Sportsman), Kenny Gates and Rob Yetman (co-champions in the Pro Stock division), Jeremy Cramer (IMCA), and Rocky Warner (Street Stock). For all drivers except for Gates (2004) and Warner (co-champion in 2005) it was their first career championships at Fonda in those divisions.

Fonda Speedway promoter Ric Lucia started the “Night of Features” format in his first year of promoting the speedway back in 1997.

Looking back over the years here are all of the different drivers who have won feature events on the “Night of Features” in the modified, sportsman, and pro stock divisions. Over the 10 year span the “Night of Features” consisted of two feature events for each of those divisions with a total of 20 feature events being held in each of the three classes.

ODASZ WINS SECOND OF THE SEASON AT FONDA
FONDA, NY – Earlier this season Ryan Odasz and car owner Wayne Podbielski proved that they were a potent combination of driver and car owner at the Track of Champions, Fonda Speedway after winning the modified feature event. Last Saturday evening they proved it again as the Chet’s Floor Covering #14R visited victory lane at Fonda for the second time this season and the sixth time of Odasz’s career at the Track of Champions.

“You Saturday night dirt track race fans are the greatest in the world,” a very excited Odasz said in victory lane. “With all of the racing organizations that are in trouble out there you have to keep coming out and supporting us to keep it all going.”

Other winners on Morris Ford Mercury Night at Fonda were David Towns who continues to dominate in the sportsman division, Kenny Martin Jr. who went back to back in the pro stock division, Kevin Buff in the IMCA division, Rocky Warner and Rob VanAernam who both scored back to back wins in the street stock division.

FUSCO TAKES FOURTH CAREER WIN AT FONDA
FONDA, NY – It has been since July 10 of 2004 since Mike Fusco visited victory lane at the Fonda Speedway but on Saturday night he got there again with the Cronies Restaurant #33F after the race went clean and green for the entire 30-lap distance.

For Fusco it was his first win of the season and the fourth of his career in a modified at Fonda. It was an emotional celebration in victory lane for the Fusco family as Mike dedicated the win to his grandfather who is in the hospital.

“My grandfather is sick in the hospital,” Fusco said. “This win is for him. We have been struggling this year with the setup on this car and have been working really hard to get a handle on it. I am really glad to be here. It has been a long time coming.”

Other winners on Wm. Larned Night at Fonda were Robert Perry (sportsman), Kenny Martin Jr. (pro stock), Jeremy Cramer (IMCA), Rob VanAernam and Rocky Warner (street stock).

VARIN WINS ANOTHER MAJOR EVENT AT FONDA
FONDA, NY – Recently the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series was talking about major events on their circuit and some of the different drivers in the series were asked their opinions on the subject as far as what events on the circuit they considered as “majors”.

Saturday evening the Fonda Speedway held one of their “major” events of the 2007 racing season as BBL Companies sponsored a 50-lap modified feature event paying $5,000 to the winner.

When it comes to big events at the Fonda Speedway the Jake and Nancy Spraker owned #1J is always ready to compete and their driver Bobby Varin is always on top of his game. Saturday evening was no exception.

After winning $6,800 a couple of weeks ago at Fonda in a special mid week show, Varin backed it up with the $5,000 win last night giving him a winning total of $11,800 in just a two week period of time not counting what he won a week ago Saturday.

For Varin it was his fifth win of the season and the 33rd of his career at Fonda.

“I think that the best car should be the winner and tonight I think that we were the best car,” Varin said in victory lane. “I have to thank Jake & Nancy Spraker and my crew for this. With no points given in our race tonight it makes it tough on us because it makes it one night short on trying to gain points on Matty (DeLorenzo).”

BBL COMPANIES SPONSORING A HUGE NIGHT OF RACING AT FONDA ON SATURDAY, JULY 28
FONDA, NY – What do a 50-lap $5,000 to win modified feature, a grand fireworks display, and a military flyover by the United States Air Force have in common? They will all be a part of the racing program at the Track of Champions Fonda Speedway on Saturday, July 28.

Along with the modifieds there will be a full card of racing in the sportsman, pro stock, IMCA, and street stock divisions. And all of the additions to the racing program will come with NO INCREASE IN THE REGULAR ADMISSION PRICES!

“That was one thing that we definitely wanted to do,” BBL Companies president Kevin Gleason said. “Spice things up a little for both the drivers and the fans without increasing the admission prices.”

DELORENZO WINS ANOTHER AT FONDA WHILE MUNROE TAKES FIRST CAREER SPORTSMAN WIN
FONDA, NY – Saturday evening at the Fonda Speedway a full six division racing program was run with Matt DeLorenzo continuing his dominance of the modified division.

DeLorenzo had no problem whatsoever getting to the front from his 11th place starting position and on a restart at the halfway point of the 30-lap event, after an accident where two contenders for the win were knocked out, he got the lead and pulled away to an easy victory. The win was his seventh of the season and the 11th of his career at the Track of Champions.

“That was a tough race,” DeLorenzo said. “The track was rough in turns one and two but my car was great on the bottom of the speedway so I just kept running there and gaining on everyone. Jack (Johnson), Pat (Ward), and Ray (Zemken) were going good and I hope that Pat (Ward) and Dave (Lape) are okay after their accidents tonight.”

In modified heat race number two, Dave Lape caught a rut in the track in turn one and flipped his Palmer Service Center modified multiple times. Lape was helped out of the car by the safety workers and was transported to the hospital for observation. He was back at the speedway later in the evening and according to his wife Jackie Lape he was sore in the elbow, knee, back and neck areas but a CT scan that was taken at the hospital was negative.

During the street stock feature a multi car pileup ensued in turn two with Cody Bleau involved along with many others. Bleau was also transported to the hospital for observation and released according to speedway officials.
